Uranus Sign Explained: Understanding Uranus as a Generational Planet

If you’ve been asked for your Sun Sign, you probably know how to answer. But have you ever been asked what your Uranus sign is?

Uranus in Astrology

In astrology, the inner planets represent your personal signs. Mercury, Venus, Mars, the Moon, and the Sun. They all play a part in your personality.

But the outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, are all known as generation planets because entire generations share the same signs. For this first blog about generational planets, we will start with Uranus because Jupiter and Saturn can be seen as both personal and generational planets, so we’ll cover each of them in another blog.

This blog is all about the generational planets Uranus and how it defines each generation.

Do the planets really affect us? Is Astrology Real?

Your Uranus sign is part of Astrology and birth charts. Many people don’t put a lot of stock in astrology. They think it’s a little far-fetched. They don’t understand how it manifests itself in life. And it’s true that astrology is very metaphysical. There are some things to think about.

First, astrology, as well as astronomy, has been studied by the ancients since the earliest accounts of human civilization. And often, they have been studied alongside one another. Astronomy as science and astrology as the metaphysical, the spiritual. From Ancient Babylonia to Ancient Greece. And it was practiced on every continent despite being separated by oceans. The Aztecs, the Mayans, the Pacific islanders, the Australian aborigines, the Europeans, Asians, Africans. That is more than just a coincidence.

As the planets go around the sun, they are all affected by the sun. They are also affected by one another. Earth is affected by the moon’s gravity, it determines our tides, and animals and plants live by moon cycles. But the moon’s influence is apparent because it’s so close to us. The other planets are very distant, but that doesn’t mean they don’t influence our Earth.

Jupiter in Astrology

Consider the history of the solar system. The planets in their orbits may seem stable, but they haven’t always been. And they won’t always remain so stable. And massive behemoths like Jupiter certainly influence gravity. For instance, Jupiter’s massive magnetic shield spews particles all over the solar system and it’s even possible to pick up some of that here on earth.

I’m going to write a blog about the planet’s overall effects in our lives, but it’s important to keep it in mind that they, like anything else, are part of nature, and they have their part to play. For now, check out my blog on Astrology in personality for further reference.

Uranus Sign

Astrology Signs

Uranus is the 7th planet in our solar system. It’s a great ice giant in the far reaches of our solar system, out where the sun’s influence is diminished.

It takes Uranus 84 years to complete the zodiac. It spends about 7 years in each sign, so each Uranus generation is roughly about 7 years long.

In astrology, Uranus rules the sign of Aquarius. This makes Uranus a planet that’s all about enlightenment and innovation. It is the planet of progressive thoughts, breaking from tradition, and testing norms. It moves us forward. And nature is all about balance. There’s a need for a healthy balance between tradition and progression and Uranus is the planet that can bring us that progression energy.

Its influence can often be sudden. After all, it wasn’t even discovered until 1781, so the ancients did not know about it. It was a surprise, something unexpected, and this is what Uranus is all about. It’s a planet of rebellion and sudden transformation. Its influence on the generations is hard to ignore.

Uranis in Aries Uranus in Aries (1927-1934, 2010-2018)

Aries is the sign of ambition. The generation born under this sign can be seen as ambitious and extremely resourceful, but they can also be destructive. They are impulsive and impatient, needing instant results.

Uranus was in Aries during the 2010s and the generation born under this sign are still children, but we can expect to see the Aries Uranus signs come to fruition from them. They will be a very ambitious generation, expecting instant results. They will be a generation of action.

The last Uranus and Aries generation saw the end of the roaring 20s and the beginning of the Great Depression. It was a generation of change and destruction. This generation learned to be resourceful as well.

Uranus in Taurus Uranus sign in Taurus (1934-1941, 2018-2026)

We are currently in Taurus and will be until 2026. Taurus rules wealth. Think about the rise of things like bitcoin and cryptocurrency and the threat of world currency. People born in this era are very young children now, but we will see them growing to care about currency and environmental stability.

During the last Uranus in Taurus, we had another monetary crisis: the Great Depression. We saw the establishments of traditions that arose out of the depression, habits that will endure.

Uranus in Gemini Uranus in Gemini (1941-1948, 2025-2032)

Uranus in Gemini rules communication. They are the leaders of social change and reform because they are the ones who speak up. People belonging to this sign can be very charismatic. They are natural communicators.

It’s an air sign. During the last Uranus Gemini, we saw World War Two and the beginnings of the cold war.

Uranus in Gemini will be next and will bring more innovation in communications.

Uranus Sign Cancer Uranus sign in Cancer (1948-1955)

Cancer rules tradition. It is a nurturing sign and prefers domestic life. This was certainly apparent during Uranus’s last visit to this sign. Much of the social norms we consider traditional today came out of the 1950s. Things like traditional American values, the American housewife, and the baby boom.

Uranus in Leo Uranus in Leo (1955-1961)

Uranus in Leo ushered in the counterculture era of the late 1950s and early 60s. The spirit of rebellion and youth were in the air. Think of the Beatniks and rock and roll. This is a generation of forceful personalities and assertive attitudes.

Uranus in Virgo is all about alternatives. The significant innovations of this Uranus generation are especially seen in the health industry. They are driven to progress in their methods of healing. They are the ones testing and innovating new boundaries in science. This Uranus sign in Virgo generation can end up being a generation of hypochondriacs and germaphobes.

Uranus in Libra is about equality and this was the era of Civil Rights, women’s rights, and LGBT rights. It was also the era of anti-war protests as so many of America’s men got drafted into the Vietnam War.

This sign can be very artsy and charming as well. Think of all the music that came from this generation!

Uranus in Scorpio Uranus sign in Scorpio (1974-1981)

Uranus in Scorpio is about sexuality and taboo. They are blunt, aggressive, and passionate. We see this manifested in a society pushing the boundaries regarding sexuality. We also see a hidden danger of these boundaries at this time with the AIDS/HIV crisis.

Uranus in Sagittarius Uranus in Sagittarius (1981-1988)

Uranus in Sagittarius is all about thought and philosophy. This generation saw a rejection of outdated ways of thinking and a redefining of new ideals. I’m part of this Uranus sign, as is my husband, my brother and one of my two sisters. We got to enjoy the innovation and the free thinking of this sign first hand.

Uranus Sign Capricorn Uranus sign in Capricorn (1988-1995)

Uranus sign in Capricorn. Enter the millennials. This last sign saw an even further push away from traditions and an adoption of ideals that became more and more progressive with each passing year.

Pisces is all about spirituality, mental health, and creativity and we can certainly see this manifested in the generation born under this Uranus sign. A push for mental health and radical changes cannot be ignored.

Uranus Returns

You may have heard of Saturn return, this is when Saturn returns to the same sign that it was when you were born. Uranus has a return phase as well. When Uranus was first discovered, unexpectedly in 1781, it was in Gemini. This was an era of rebellion and revolution.

Uranus has been in Gemini two more times since its discovery, and each time, it has caused some chaos. It happened in 1861-1865, during the American Civil War, and again in 1941-1948, during World War Two.
