Pluto Generational Astrology: Ancestry, Samhain, and the Power of Transformation

Home » Creative Homemaking and Writing Blog » Pluto Generational Astrology: Ancestry, Samhain, and the Power of Transformation

Are you a millennial? Gen X? Gen Z? Has anyone asked you what Pluto generation you are?

Astrology helps us to understand the connection we have to nature and the divine. The unseen energy that we can feel spiritually can be understood. Pluto generational astrology can help connect us to generations past.

The planets hold spiritual energy that we are connected to. You may know your sun sign, your moon sign, how Venus represents love and Mars represents desire. But things are a little different for Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Pluto, the small distant world that astronomers debate about its planet status, still holds spiritual energy. In this blog, we are going to explore Pluto generational astrology and what it means.

What Are Generational Planets in Astrology?

You know your sun sign. If you understand basic astrology or you have read my articles about Astrology and astronomy or about Astrology for character development, you may be familiar with your personal planets. Venus for love, Mars for desire, etc. The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk is a great resource to have.

Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are unique for a few reasons. First, they were only discovered in the last couple of centuries, and so the ancients who understood astrology didn’t know about them. So traditional Greek astrology doesn’t refer to them; they don’t have days that were devoted to them, nor do they rule certain zodiac signs. In modern astrology, Uranus is associated with Aquarius, Neptune with Pisces and Pluto with Scorpio, though they have to share with other planets.

The Role of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto Generational Astrology

The other unique aspect of the generational planets is that because they orbit the sun so slowly, they spend years, sometimes decades, in one zodiac. Because of this, they define entire generations with their influence. That is why they are referred to as generational planets. Check out my Spiritual Astrology for Beginners Pinterest board to learn more about Pluto’s role in your birth chart.

Pluto Generational Astrology: Cycles of Transformation

Pluto takes roughly 248 years to orbit the Sun, spending 12–30 years in each sign. Each Pluto generation carries a particular collective lesson: transformation in power, identity, or values.

Pluto's place in astrology

Pluto Generational Astrology: Pluto the planet of Death and Rebirth

In Roman mythology, Pluto is the god of the underworld. So, this tiny little world at the edge of our solar system commands the energy of death, but also rebirth. Pluto can define how a generation sees death and rebirth.

Pluto Generational Astrology: Transformation, Shadow, and Power

As I discussed in my article about death and darkness, death is a transformation. Pluto is a planet of transformation. How does one generation transform from the one before it? What power does one generation hold and what power does it pass on to later generations? What shadows define a generation and what lessons can future generations take from it?

Ancestry and the Language of Pluto Generational Astrology

Why Study Ancestry Through Pluto Generational Astrology?

Astrology is the study and interpretation of the spiritual energy that celestial bodies exude upon us. This energy roots us in the divine and connects us to nature. Ancestry is the measure by which we as a race (the human race) can look back on the long journey we’ve taken on this world. We can study generational astrology and understand what traits we inherit from past generations.

Our ancestors and Pluto generational astrology

Pluto and Generational Learning

Studying Pluto generational astrology can help understand what transformations took place from one generation to the next. What were some lessons we can take from our ancestors? What mistakes, what triumphs? Ancestry and astrology helps us see patterns. Pluto is all about transformation. Learning geology and keeping a family tree can help you keep track of the past. Ancestral Homemaking Practices

In spiritual homemaking and seasonal living, ancestry can be represented in the home. Keep symbols and representations of past generations.

Consider the Pluto generations of the 20th and 21st centuries, and consider your own ancestors during these times:

The Season of Samhain and Its Connection to Ancestry

The Thinning of the Veil

Ancestry and Pluto generational astrology is relevant all year round. But during the season of Samhain, specifically during the months of October and November, as we enter the dark season, Pluto, the planet and god of death and rebirth, is especially relevant.

Samhain on October 31st marks the start of the dark half of the year. It is a time when the veil is thin and the spirits of the dead walk among us.

Death, Rebirth, and the Pluto Archetype

Pluto perfectly aligns with Samhain. Death and rebirth, transformation. Both remind us that endings are not to be feared but celebrated. As nature withdraws into darkness, we are invited to reflect, release, and prepare for future rebirth.

Ancestral Rituals at Samhain

Practicing rituals like Dumb Supper on Samhain is the perfect way to honor Pluto and Ancestry. Study genealogy during this time, learn about your ancestors from past generations. Learn about the journey your own generation has embarked on.

Pluto in Creative Writing and Storytelling

Using Pluto Themes in Fiction

For writers, Pluto offers rich archetypes: secrecy, hidden power, death and rebirth, and ancestral inheritance. These themes create interesting stories of transformation, resilience, and generational conflict. Check out my blog about Autumn writing themes to learn about the symbolism of the season. My Pinterest board, World Mythology can give you inspiration.

World-Building with Generational Cycles

Just as astrologers track Pluto through signs, writers can weave generational arcs into world-building. What shifts does each generation face? What ancestral burdens are passed down? My blog about world-building can give you a breakdown of what I call the five disciplines of world-building.

Writing as Ancestral Healing

Creative writing itself can be an ancestral act. Recording the stories, voices, and lessons of those who came before us. By writing with Pluto’s symbolism, we honor both the darkness and the light in our heritage.

Building Ancestral Altars

An altar with candles, seasonal foods, photos, and / or heirlooms allows you to honor lineage in daily life. This ties Pluto’s underworld symbolism to the warmth of home. My blog about Autumn Living can help create an ambiance for your altar and living space.

Shadow Work at Home

Pluto invites us to notice what we avoid. Consider old patterns and unspoken emotions. Homemaking can become a spiritual practice of clearing, renewing, and creating sacred space. Check out my Nature Inspired Home Design Pinterest board for inspiration about making a home.

Being Beholden to Ancestors

As you honor your ancestors and study Pluto generational astrology, remember that you are not your ancestors. Our ancestors walked their own paths in order to pass on their wisdom to future generations. But we are not made to be burdened by their legacy. What your ancestors did or didn’t do in the past, their misdeeds, their triumphs, were done in order for you to learn. To be proud of their achievements, honor their wisdom, and learn from the mistakes they made. But don’t think that you are responsible for anything- good or bad- your ancestors did.

Feel empathy for those who suffered in the past. Feel pride for those who sacrificed in the past for you. But never feel you are owed, or that you owe others, because of your ancestors. You are not them, and you have your own journey to walk, your own mistakes to make, your own triumphs and achievements, and your own wisdom to pass on to future generations.

Living Pluto’s Lessons

Pluto generational astrology teaches us that death is never the end. By understanding Pluto’s role as a generational planet, honoring our ancestry, and embracing the wisdom of Samhain, we align with cycles greater than ourselves.

As homemakers, writers, and spiritual seekers, we can carry these lessons into our creative work and daily rituals. By doing so, we heal what was hidden, honor those who came before, and step forward renewed — carrying Pluto’s flame of transformation into the future.
